Sacred Space,
Eternal Presence
Our Sacred Story
Founded in 1972 by Swami Brahmananda Saraswati, Abhamandal Ashram has for over five decades been a living flame of Vedic wisdom and compassionate service. Nestled in the serene Sahyadri foothills, the ashram began as a simple open-air meditation space where seekers gathered under the stars to rediscover the language of silence.
The word Abhamandal — Sanskrit for "Circle of Radiance" — embodies the ashram's core belief: that every human being is a centre of luminous potential. Swamiji's own spiritual lineage traces to the ancient Dashanami Sampradaya, carrying an unbroken thread of Advaita Vedanta philosophy that guides all teachings here.
Today, under the guidance of Swami Chidananda, the ashram serves thousands annually through retreat programs, free community meals (Anna Daan), gurukul education for underprivileged children, and heritage temple restoration. We are registered under the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act and maintain full transparency in our operations.
Our Purpose
A world where every human being awakens to their innermost nature — peaceful, compassionate, and free. We envision communities rooted in Dharma, where ancient wisdom meets the challenges of modern life, and where silence becomes a sanctuary available to all, regardless of background or belief.
To cultivate a sacred space for spiritual inquiry, selfless service (Seva), and holistic education. Through authentic retreat programs, community outreach, and preservation of Vedic heritage, we walk beside every seeker on their unique path toward inner freedom and outer responsibility.
Selfless service as the highest form of worship. We see the Divine in every face we serve.
Non-violence in thought, word, and deed — toward all living beings and the Earth herself.
Committed spiritual practice that refines the mind and opens the heart to deeper truth.
Truth as the bedrock of all action — in our teachings, our finances, and our relationships.
